Enrique Mario Francini (1916-1978) was one of the most virtuosic and influential tango violinists. Francini received a classical violin education but primarily played tango. He was a part of well-known orchestras like Miguel Caló’s, which had an important influence on Francini as a fellow orchestra member, particularly Raúl Kaplún. Kaplún is widely regarded as the pioneer of the virtuosic tango violin style. Being a great admirer of both Francini and Kaplún, I study their playing techniques, by transcribing solos and examining the orchestral context in recordings. I analyze bowings, fingerings, embelishments, sound color and texture etc. etc.
