Quinteto La Bordona ‘Celebración Tanguera’

Who we are
La Bordona is a tango quintet that has been around for more than 25 years. We made our debut at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in 1999 with the performance ‘Destino Tango’, produced by theater group Orkater. Since then we have played at numerous international venues and festivals, including Buenos Aires, Paris, Lyon, Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and many other Japanese cities.

Tango enthusiasts may recognize the members of La Bordona from many other well-known (international) tango ensembles, like El Arranque, Quinteto Zárate, El Después, and Sonico:

What is our project about?
We came up with the project ‘Celebración de Tango’ based on the special tango recording collection that our bassist, tango musician and researcher Ignacio Varchausky put together and manages in Buenos Aires. Ignacio, Alejandro and I made a selection together from sometimes forgotten or lost recordings. We then wrote transcriptions in musical notation. In January, these pieces, which sometimes remained hidden for more than fifty years, will be performed again. This is not exactly work by the smallest ensembles! The program includes unknown arrangements by Quinteto Real, pieces by the quintets of Pedro Laurenz and Hugo Baralis, Los Nostálgicos del Tango and many others. Pieces for smaller ensembles, such as duo arrangements by Francini-Stampone, will also be heard live again after all these years.
